Andrew graduated from the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Sydney, in 1984, became a member of both the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and the Royal College of Pathologists Australasia in 1993, and completed his MD thesis on HIV-related drug hypersensitivity in 1994. He has been at St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney, since 1989, where he is Director of the HIV, Immunology and Infectious Diseases Unit, and Head of the Clinical Research Program, Centre for Applied Medical Research. He was appointed Professor of Medicine, UNSW, in 2006. He serves on the editorial boards of The Lancet, PLoS Medicine, and JAIDS, peer reviews for 15 journals, and has authored more than 290 peer-reviewed publications. His main research interest is the complications of antiretroviral therapy. He is a member of advisory working groups on antiretroviral toxicity for the INSIGHT network and the International AIDS Society-USA. In 2008, he was cited by Science as one of the top 10 HIV researchers worldwide in the previous 10 years.
